I miss the old days when you could pull a glass bottle of soda from a machine and pop the top off and enjoy an ice cold drink. To me soda from a can or plastic bottle never tasted quite the same as soda from a glass bottle.
I would love for people to pledge their support in asking the soda producers in the United States to bring back the classic glass bottles. If you'd like to see this come place please add a comment with your support. If we get enough positive feedback I'll print this thread out and send this to the directors of a number of bottling companies.
If beer can be bottled in glass why can't soda?
I don't drink soda too often, but love the bottles beer come in. It's worth a little extra, it can be recycled like plastic. They take a very, very long time to biodegrade, but plastic is even worse. Also, I've had beer in a plastic bottle, and it definitely doesn't chill as well.
Maybe I'm telling on myself but back in the day, we used to put peanuts in our bottled coke. Something about it just made it taste good. lol
I remember seeing people do that but I never understood it.
I also remember how great it was to pull out a glass bottle of Coke or Pepsi from a vending machine. Nowadays, I get the glass-bottled softdrinks from either wholesalers, in specialty Hispanic markets or when I travel to Mexico.
I'm not sure if a grass-roots campaign will work to get the beverage industry to put out soda again in glass bottles (besides special occasions -- Coke will put out their Christmas bottles and charge a premium), but count me in.
I think that the taste change is due mostly to the fact that they now use corn syrup instead of good old sugar. If you get a Mexican soda it uses sugar and tastes like you remember.
I have seen these recently. I don't remember where. Some kind of coke classic bottles. Sam's Club maybe?
I was in the Walmart grocery store today (Neighborhood Market?) and they were selling Coke in six packs of 12oz glass bottles. $2.98 per 6 pack. I got one.
